Drill the he/him test until automatic. Write it on a classroom poster. Work through 5 examples together before independent practice. Note that 'whom' is more common in formal writing; 'who' is common in informal speech.
Vocabulary
who: Used as the subject of a verb.
whom: Used as the object of a verb or preposition.
Common Mistakes
- Using 'who' for all cases because 'whom' sounds formal
- Forgetting to mentally rearrange relative clauses before applying the test
- Applying the test incorrectly to inverted word order questions
