Example: Sarah has 12 cupcakes. She shares them equally with 4 friends. How many cupcakes does each friend get?
12 ÷ 4 = 3 cupcakes
Example: A rope is 24 meters long. It is cut into 6 equal pieces. How long is each piece?
24 ÷ 6 = 4 meters
Example: A store has 32 oranges. They pack them equally into 8 bags. How many oranges are in each bag?
32 ÷ 8 = 4 oranges
Example: A teacher has 36 pencils to share equally among 9 students. How many pencils will each student get?
Strategy: Find "total ÷ groups". 36 ÷ 9 = 4 pencils
Example: A classroom has 24 desks arranged in 4 rows. How many desks are in each row?
24 ÷ 4 = 6 desks
Example: Tom has 24 apples. He gives 6 to his friend. He divides the rest equally among 3 baskets. How many apples are in each basket?
24 - 6 = 18, then 18 ÷ 3 = 6 apples
Example: Jake earns $6 per hour. He works 4 hours. He splits his earnings equally into 3 savings jars. How much is in each jar?
$6 × 4 = $24, then $24 ÷ 3 = $8
Example: A store has 5 boxes. Each box contains 8 toys. If all toys are shared equally among 4 children, how many toys does each child get?
5 × 8 = 40, then 40 ÷ 4 = 10 toys
