Teaching Notes

Have students read each fragment and ask "What part is missing?" before writing. Encourage them to check both subject and verb after completing.

Vocabulary
Fragment: An incomplete sentence missing key parts.
Subject: Who or what the sentence is about.
Verb: The action or state of being.
Common Mistakes
  • Adding only a determiner ("The" + fragment) without fixing a missing verb
  • Changing the meaning entirely instead of adding minimally
Extension Activities
  • Add subjects to verb fragments.
  • Add verbs to subject fragments.
  • Write sentences from given fragments.
Parent Tip

Give your child a fragment and ask them to add the missing subject or verb.
