Teaching Notes

Before starting, read all sentences aloud together. Ask students to predict what type of adverb (how/when/where/how often) each blank needs before looking at the word bank. This builds inference skills.

Vocabulary
Word Bank: A list of words to choose from.
Complete: To finish or fill in.
Common Mistakes
  • Picking the first adverb that "sounds okay" without reading the full sentence
  • Not crossing off used words and accidentally reusing them
  • Placing time adverbs in manner slots
Differentiation
SupportLabel each blank with the adverb type needed (How / When / Where / How Often) before choosing.
ChallengeCover the word bank and fill in blanks independently, then compare with the bank.
Discussion Questions
  • Was any blank tricky? Could two words fit?
  • What clues in the sentence helped you choose?
Extension Activities
  • Write 3 new sentences using leftover adverbs you didn't need.
  • Make your own word bank and swap with a partner.
Parent Tip

Give your child sentences and ask them to add descriptive adverbs.
