Teaching Notes
Key rule for neither/nor and either/or: the verb agrees with the subject CLOSEST to it. Indefinite pronouns (each, everyone, neither) are always singular.
Vocabulary
Subject: The person or thing a sentence is about.
Verb: An action word or state of being.
Common Mistakes
- Treating "neither A nor B" as a compound subject and using a plural verb
- Using a plural verb after "each" or "every"
Extension Activities
- Find sentences with collective nouns.
- Identify sentences with indefinite pronouns.
- Create sentences with compound subjects.
Parent Tip
Ask your child to find sentences in books where the subject and verb might be tricky.
