Vocabulary
Non-standard units: Units of measurement that are not part of a formal system, like cubes or blocks.
Conversion factor: A number used to change one unit of measurement into another.
Centimeter (cm): A metric unit used to measure length.
Extension Activities
- Measure the same object using two different sets of non-standard units and convert both to centimeters.
- If 2 cubes = 1 cm, measure an object and convert its length to centimeters.
Parent Tip
Use LEGO bricks or small toys to measure objects. Help your child count the bricks and determine the length in centimeters, especially if each brick is 1 cm.
