Teaching Notes

Use physical objects (blocks, beans) — if students can pair them all up with none left over, the number is even.

Vocabulary
Even: A number that can be divided evenly into two equal groups. Ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8.
Odd: A number that cannot be divided into two equal groups. Ends in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9.
Common Mistakes
  • Thinking 0 is odd
  • Using full number instead of just the ones digit for large numbers
Parent Tip

Count objects around the house and decide if the count is odd or even.
